Dr. Summit Shah is one of the nation’s premier allergy doctors. He was judged as someone who was going to achieve a lot in life after graduating from Bishop Watterson High School as the class valedictorian. After graduating from the Ohio State University Medical School in 2005, he began a career as a respected allergy specialist which would eventually lead him to start his own allergy research center called Premier Allergies.
Summit Shah MD is also the founder of the allergy department at the Chalmers P Wylie Veterans Outpatient center. He is an advisor to many support groups such as My Food Allergies. He is an accredited fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
Passion For Higher Education
One of the causes about which Dr. Summit Shah has always been passionate is the idea that everyone should have access to higher education. As tuition costs continue to increase on a yearly basis at schools around the country, Dr. Shah decided to implement a program that would at least help some of the many promising young people who are unable to get a college education because they just don’t have the money. Even for those students who borrow a lot of money to go to school, there is still the problem of paying it back. Any way you slice it, higher education is ridiculously expensive.
Previous Winners
Last year’s winners were Marissa Dickson and Timothy Smith. Marissa Dickson is currently a senior at Hilliard Bradley High School. Having already been accepted by the Mt. Carmel College Of Nursing, Marissa Dickson was a natural choice for Dr. Shah to make. She is an aspiring medical professional who shows a lot of promise. She was mainly selected for her excellent grades and test scores, as well as a commitment to serving the needs of the sick and injured. Timothy Smith attends Dublin Scioto and is also majoring in health care. Other previous winners include Samantha McGhee and Haley Devine.
Summit Shah Scholarship
This is why Dr. Shah started the Summit Shah MD Scholarship program. This scholarship is open to students of all kinds and from all economic levels. This scholarship does not concentrate on the rich kids, or the poor kids specifically but rather concentrate its efforts on helping those students who show ability and talent. One student per year is chosen to receive $1000 toward their education.
To be considered for this generous grant, candidates are instructed to write a 500-word essay on the subject of their goals in life. They are told to write about the things that help them to stay motivated to reach those goals. Finally, they are also supposed to write about how they hope to achieve their goals. The scholarship is open only to current college students and high school students who have already been accepted to a college. There are no limitations as far as majors or study programs are concerned.
Becoming An Allergist
Dr. Summit Shah became passionate about allergic medicine at a fairly young age. He experienced a lot of allergic issues growing up in central Ohio. At the time, medical science did not have as many ways to deal with these kinds of problems. And even if they had, Shah’s family would have been hard-pressed to afford it. This is what inspired him to dedicate himself to the study of allergic conditions. The invention of better technologies and medicines to control allergic conditions made him all the more determined to bring those services to his hometown and the surrounding area.
Apart from his important contributions to the enrichment of the youth, Dr. Shah mainly gives back to the community through his exhaustive and never-ending research work. According to a recent interview, research is the most important part of his day. He also devotes a lot of time to teaching, as he is now employed as a professor by Ohio State University.
One of the factors to which Dr. Shah attributes his success is a willingness to listen to everyone. From the highest-ranking member of the company all the way down to the lowly janitor, you never know who might be able to contribute a good idea. It is hard to deny that communication can often succeed where all else fails.
